Meet a Provider

William Owen, New South Wales

What do you like most about your job?

I enjoy meeting various people from interesting backgrounds. I usually ask them questions about their lives because I am fascinated by where they have come from.

What is the most common piece of advice you give to clients?

I suggest heat therapy (application of a heat pack) to patients outside the ‘acute injury phase’ (beyond 72 hrs post-injury and, therefore, outside the initial inflammatory phase). Local heat application can have a positive effect on pain and tissue tightness.

How can clients get the most out of their injury prevention and management strategies?

It’s important that managers and supervisors support workers in attending scheduled appointments and following their treatment plan until they’re appropriately discharged from care within the treating room.

How do you stay healthy?

I began to shift my eating habits when I entered my 30s – I eat less sugar, exercise regularly (gym, weights and callisthenics), and take the dog for a run.
